After the first lockdown ended, a lot of us were probably pretty pleased that it was over. And probably many more would’ve imagined this never happening again.
Well, I think things have turned again and a lot of countries are going back into lockdown. Or they might already have decided a long time ago to put the lock back onto the country.
The vaccines are starting to roll out already, but it’s still going to take a while before everything will be more or less back to normal.
So let’s have a look at a couple of ideas for what to do during a lockdown. Or better said, during a second lockdown.
What Have We Learned?
Luckily, we have already been through one before. And a lot of companies have already come up with alternatives.
During the first lockdown, it was looking for what to do and how to cope with all of these things.
Now the emotions have settled we can actually look at it more clearly this time. We’ve all been through this before, and even though it might not be the nicest thing, we can pull ourselves through it.
We know now that we can be productive during a lockdown, so let’s do it once again. But maybe even more effective.
Here are a couple of ideas:
#1. Catching Up On Reading During Lockdown
For many people around the world, winter has come. So, it’s going to be harder to do things outside. There is not a lot of gardening to do, so it’s an ideal time to stay inside and catch up on your reading!
This is not just for book lovers. There are so many other ways to keep yourself reading and away from the screen.
If you aren’t that much into regular books. Try a comic book. There’s so much going on in the world of comics. There is really something for just anyone.
They used to be focused on superheroes, but that time has changed drastically. There are still a lot of those of course. Which you can see here.
Not that much into comic books?
Well, there are also audiobooks. Alright, you do need a screen to choose a book. But after that, you can just sit down, close your eyes, and listen to the book you’ve chosen.
A great platform for this is Ubook. Here you can subscribe and listen to any book you’d like from their library. And they’ve got a wide range of books available!
They are expanding their services to a lot of countries. So if you can’t find your country on the list. Check back another time to see if they’ve added more countries to their list.
They also have ebooks available, so if you don’t mind watching a screen then you can also read your books on your favorite device.
It might not be completely the same though. But I seriously love that I can take my favorite books on my phone rather than carrying a one-pound book on me.
So, chop chop, grab a book and start reading!
Especially during the winter reading is a very great passing of time. Outside it’s getting too cold anyway. Even for me in sunny Portugal, it’s getting too cold to do a lot of outside things.
#2 Staying Active During Lockdown
Another thing we’ve seen is that we’ve gained a couple of pounds after the first lockdown. Now we know that this is a bit of an issue, we can do something about it!
We know gyms will probably closed and group sports probably won’t happen either. So, let’s have a look at some options to keep your practice going.
Even if you aren’t doing any sport at all, or you don’t really have a routine, it might be good to start one. Even when you don’t really move, chances are that you still did some walking before when you had to go to work.
So you went from little movement to no movement at all.
A lot of fitness programs have already started some online programs, so be sure you contact your gym to ask with they are doing.
And if they aren’t doing anything, there is a lot to watch on YouTube! Here are a couple of channels you might be interested in. If you’d like to maintain your weight of course.
And even if you don’t, some cardio will do great for your heart.
Great Lockdown Fitness YouTube Channels
This one is my all-time favorite. Short videos and a lot of videos where you won’t need any equipment.
It’s also great to get some extra dietary tips and such.
If you are more into dancing, then this channel might be something for you. A great way to burn some calories, and it’s also great to have instructions from a diverse team.
Rope skipping is very hyping at the moment. Probably because it’s almost a whole body workout while having a throwback to your childhood. Be prepared to lose a lot of calories in a very short amount of time.
And of course, don’t forget to do a little bit of yoga either! It’s great to do a little bit of soul searching during your lockdown. At least, that’s what I’ve been doing for the past half year and it’s been amazing.
Be aware that The Yogi Life For Me has its own YouTube channel. And that I’d love to work on your personal goals during Private Online Yoga Classes.
#3 Being Productive During Lockdown
Alright, we’ve seen how to keep up with your intellect and to keep your fitness. Now let’s look at your environment. How long has it been that you’ve done some things at home?
You know, if you want to be productive working at home, you might need to declutter first.
You’re having a lot of time, so it might be a good time to tidy up!
You can do some DIY-jobs like painting or fixing little things. But if that’s not your cup of tea, you can just take everything out of your wardrobe and tidy it up again!
Maybe you’ll even find some pieces that you haven’t worn before.
The last lockdown I got a bit crazy about looking at the cracks in my wall, so I’ve decided to fill them all up again. The results were amazing. Then the lockdown was over and didn’t have the time to paint the walls anymore.
Now we are in a new lockdown and it’s time for me to pick up the brush and start doing it.
DIY during the lockdown might even save you some money. Carpenters cost quite a lot of money, especially if it’s for some little things.
Of course, if you aren’t sure that you can handle something, leave it to the professionals.
Alright, that’s it again for another lockdown. I’m now at day 2 here in Portugal and hoping that I can do some more soul searching. I’ve already got the Upanishads ready for my reading and I’ve got my Yoga to keep me fit(ish).
Take care of yourself and see you soon!
Nama-stay safe!
