I’ve already talked about some amazingly affordable retreats in Europe, but now it’s time to move our butts to the other side of the ocean and have a look at Mexico.

And what a lot of people aren’t aware of, is that you can have some great retreats for little money in Central-America.

Here’s my top 3, but be aware that there are more retreats available. These three are just my favorites. Hope you’ll like them too!

Surf and Yoga Retreat in Puerto Escondido

Experiencia Mexico
Prices start from US$ 492
15 Days / 14 Nights
Available All-Year-Round

Let’s start off with what’s probably the cheapest yoga retreat in Mexico you’ll be able to find. And not just that, it’s also a surf retreat!

What I particularly liked about the location of this retreat is that escondido is Spanish for hidden. Meaning that this might as well be a hidden gem. Well, it probably used to be a nice hidden gem, until they found it of course.

Nevertheless, for not even US$ 500 you’ll be able to join this retreat for 15 days!

I do have to add that for this price, you’ll be sharing your accommodation with others. Unless you pay a little bit more for some other type of accommodation. And even they are cheaply priced, so upgrades are definitely worth it.

And you’ll have to prepare your own meals as well. Or you can decide to go out for dinner. Here are some tips for when you are searching for food in a foreign country.

With this program the focus lies on the surfing part. You’ll be surfing 5 days a week, and you’ll be having the weekends off to rest and explore.

The yoga classes will be taught three days a week, except for weekends. This means that you’ll be getting a total of 6 yoga classes and 10 surfing sessions.

It does have to be said that they are looking for already experienced surfers. You can be a beginner, but they do like you to get on the board already.

They have a lot more to offer as well, which will be impossible to talk about in this little article. Therefore, you can click the button down below if you’d like to have more information.

And other than surf and yoga classes, they also offer Spanish Camps in combination with surf. And many other packages.

Leaky Gut Yoga Retreat in Playa Del Carmen

Life Synergy Retreat
Prices start from US$ 296
3 Days (Accommodation not included)

All-Year-Round

It is a bit shameful that the accommodation isn’t included in this retreat, although I really had to add it as it’s just a really good looking retreat!

This retreat is for anyone who has IBS or other intestinal problems. If you have a belly ache quite often, then you should really check out this retreat.

For three days long you’ll be receiving some workshops and yoga/meditation sessions in the morning.

Typically your day would start at 8.00 am and finishes already after lunch at 1.00 pm.

It’s up to you what you’d like to do after.

Another bonus on this retreat is that there is a juice buffet and lunch during these five hours of workshops.

This means that you’d only need to look after yourself for dinner. And this you are free to take whatever you’d like of course.

Just keep in mind that you are there to heal your leaky guts. So maybe listen what they have to say on what you should and what you shouldn’t eat.

Although, if you’ve already got this issue for a while, you’ll probably already know quite a bit about eating habits.

As I mentioned before, accommodation is not included. On the website itself you will see three options though.

They are not in-expensive, so it might be good to ask if your host has other options available for you that are a bit more appropriate for your budget.

But I’m sure you’ll be able to find something for under 200 dollars though (for 4 nights).

Your host for this retreat will be Juan Rendon and he has had some issues with his guts as well. Luckily, his mom was into alternative medicine, which led him on the path he is walking now.

And of course, there’s no better teacher than someone who’s been through it all!

There are other retreats that Juan also offers, but they are a bit more expensive. This is because they’re all full day retreats, rather than just half a day.

Nevertheless, if you do have the money to spend, checkĀ these retreatsĀ out as well.

Yoga Harmonization Retreat in Cancun

Temazcal Cancun
Prices start from US$ 380
4 Days / 3 Nights
Once a Month but All-Year-Round

If you are looking for a retreat that is luxurious, yet not that pricey. This is it!

The price includes everything already, so no extra costs! Your meals, yoga sessions, accommodation (shared), is all included.

Not just this, but they’ve even added a lot of extras as well.

Let’s see what’s included in this price:

  • Six yoga sessions
  • One 40-minute massage
  • Sound Healing
  • Jungle Walks
  • Shared Temazcal
  • etc.

Which is quite a lot of extra for not even 400 bucks.

This does mean that your days will be quite packed. But don’t worry, you can skip the evening session if you’d like some rest as well.

Of course, when you are looking for some soul searching, a full program might give you a lot of benefits.

And even though Cancun is quite known as a party city, you won’t notice any of that.

The accommodation is not too far away from the city center, but it’s still surrounded by nature. So if you’d like, you can always hop in to the city for some fun after your retreat.

And during your retreat, you will be able to enjoy the lush nature that the hacienda has to offer.

Other than that, there’s also a pool available, so don’t forget your swimming gear.

This retreat is available once a month, so make sure you check their calendar to see if it fits yours.

Have you been to any of these locations/retreats in Mexico? Or maybe some place similar? It just seems so cheap, I can’t help to wonder about the standard of the accommodation and the quality of the lessons in general. Do you have any experiences to share on that? If it’s as nice at it seems and as cheap, we all have to go.

Hi Miss Momo. I know, sometimes it just seems ridiculous how low prices can be, isn’t it?! But yeah, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of. First of all, a dollar for us might not mean a lot, as we can’t do a lot with it, but in other countries, that same dollar might be valued at 20 dollars, and you can already buy a meal with that.

Mexico is a developed country, although its currently is not as strong as the dollar. This means that for less money, you’ll be getting more than in the States. People like here in this article stay pure to their currency and don’t want to abuse the situation and ask too much and get crazy rich from it.

Of course, you also have to see that these retreats aren’t in very big spas and such, they are owned mostly privately and therefore also not too much focused on a big profit (they do want enough money to live comfortably from of course).

I hope this answers your question, if not, you can always reach out again šŸ˜‰
