A lot of yoga teachers offer these, private yoga classes. It’s a great way for them to fill in the gaps between their yoga classes. And a great way to gain more experience of course. But what can private yoga classes mean for you? Let’s talk about this a bit more.

Private Yoga Classes, What and Why?

Private yoga classes are gaining more popularity and that’s resulting in more teachers offering them as well. It’s not really sure when and how they became popular, but it must have something to do with the fact that personal trainers gained more popularity too.

And that said, yoga used to be very private as well. For thousands of years, the secrets of yoga were actually passed on just from teacher to student. Meaning that there were a lot of private teachers and students.

That got a bit lost after yoga came to the west and practiced more and more by… Well, us.

Different Types of Private Yoga Teachers

If you’ve already got a yoga teacher that also offers private yoga teachers, good for you! If you can go to your familiar yoga teacher, that’s the way to go, this person already knows you and you know his or her way of teaching.

If you don’t, there are plenty to choose from! So don’t worry about it. Every teacher is different, so make sure that you think about it a little. Sometimes following your intuition is good enough. If the person you’re looking at is feeling good to you, then go for it.

And if you are in doubt, there are a couple of things to make up your mind:

Home Versus On Location

There are two types of private yoga teachers regarding location. You’ve got the teacher that comes to your place and teaches you there, and there are those who teach in their own studio or somewhere else.

There are a couple of things you take in mind choosing between these two options.

First of all, yoga classes at home. If you have space and you have the privacy you’ll need for an at-home class, then you might be able to invite your teacher into your home. However, if you’d like to keep your life more private, this might not be the best option.

On the other hand, if you don’t have to leave your home, you’ll gain a bit more time. No relocation, so you won’t lose any time (or chill) when you are commuting.

Then you have the private yoga classes on location. The benefits of going to a studio for a private class are different. Alright, you’ve got to leave the house and maybe go into traffic. But you don’t have to worry about taking your own yoga mat, or props.

That said, some people even enjoy going into a different setting. Doing yoga at home might not be as relaxing for some people. You are still in your own environment, meaning that your mind has more time to drift off. You’ll see the dishes at the sink and be reminded of them constantly.

I really dislike doing the dishes by the way ;).

Yoga Styles

It might come as a surprise, but there are a lot of yoga styles. Alright, it’s not that big of a surprise. What is shocking though is that one of the styles that are often taught is Yoga Therapy.

In most cases, yoga therapy is a personalised version of Kundalini yoga. And as the word itself says, you’ll be tackling whatever you’d like. Kundalini yoga is more of an energetically type and will clear up all the blockages in your system.

That said, all types of yoga are represented within the Private Yoga Spectrum. You just have to see yourself which style you prefer. Very often yoga teacher offer one or two types of yoga, as that’s their preferred style.

And occasionally you’ll find someone who’s versatile and offers more types of yoga. This you won’t find too often though, so choose wisely.

Why Private Yoga Classes?

If you haven’t decided yet if private yoga classes would be something for you, then maybe the following reasons will persuade you.

Focus On What You’d like To Work On

Private yoga classes, whether online or in person, means that you’ll have the opportunity to tackle what you’d like to work on. Maybe you’d like to work on your overall physique or an old injury, or just to relax a bit more. These classes are just for you and you can ask your private yoga teacher to work on whatever you’d like.

Perfect Alignment

Alright, maybe not completely perfect, but the way you do your asanas will improve significantly as well during a private yoga class. The teacher is there for you to guide you and just you. Meaning that you’ll have a bigger chance in perfecting your alignment when you are in a yoga pose.

No Schedule Disaster

Have you ever looked at the schedule of your favorite yoga teacher and thought: Shoot, these hours don’t fit my schedule? Well, that’s the thing with yoga classes that are on a fixed schedule. You won’t always be able to do your favorite style with your favorite teacher.

But that changes with private yoga classes. Within this category, you’ll be the planner, rather than the yoga studio. You can decide almost whenever you’d like to have a yoga class.

This has a ton of benefits. As you won’t have to pay a babysitter to go to your favorite class.

Alright, you’ll have to spend a bit more, so the price, in the end, will probably be exactly the same.

Great For People With a Lower Mobility

I know it’s a bit weird for most people to think that it might be hard for some to get to a yoga class. We all aren’t blessed with full mobility. Whether it’s being a single mom or someone with a physical disability. Some people just can’t physically make it to the yoga studio.

Well, they can, but the hassle of doing this might cause more stress than what you’d want. And this is not the reason why you want to do some yoga. Yoga should be relaxing and should help you. Rather than going out of the studio to be completely stressed again after the first step you take outside.

Therefore, for people that actually have difficulties going to the studio, private classes are amazing. You don’t need to re-locate, so there is less stress in general.

Conclusion

That’s about it for why it might be a good idea to take some private yoga classes. If you still like your regular studio classes, don’t worry, it’s not a must to take private yoga classes.

And of course, don’t forget that I’m also offering my own private online yoga classes! They are really affordable as I also don’t have to relocate myself as well :).

Nama-stay wonderful!

Hi!  Thanks for this article.  I didn’t even know they did private yoga classes enough for it to be a thing!  Though that definitely makes sense.  Your trainer/teacher can tailor the class to you specifically instead of for the entire class.  Plus if you’re like me, I HATE ‘performing’ in front of other people.  Like, HATE it.  I’m pathologically shy.  So only having to do it for the teacher, which is still embarrassing to me, but not AS embarrassing, is awesome!  Plus once you get to know your instructor, it won’t be so bad.  Especially if you’re out of shape and self-conscious at first. So thanks for telling us about private yoga classes.  I’ll have to see if there are any instructors near me!

Hi Selenity, I do have to mention that I was first like that as well. I thought about all those school projects before going into the class. Thinking that I had to perform and that I had to do my best to look great and be great. But you know what? In a regular yoga class, nothing of that is true! People aren’t there to look at you or to see how good you are, nor do they want to see you fail. Therefore, if this is a big thing in your life, maybe it’s time to confront yourself with it and take a step into the yoga class ;). But it’s all up to you of course!

Hey nice article you have there, your thoughts are indeed invaluable. Before now I never considered having a private Yoga class, as I was of the opinion that, exercising will be effective when I am with other trainees. Nevertheless, there are so much focus and attention one can derived from private Yoga. I would love to know the cost for having a private Yoga teacher

Thanks for carefully analyzing the different types of yoga teachers. I observed that different teachers have different techniques for teaching yoga. They do not all follow the same routine from start to advancement. Private yoga classes are important for people who are not comfortable being in a group. And of course it gives you the room and freedom to express yourself and ask certain questions with being shy. I have become a huge fan of yoga and started practicing quite recently.
