This is probably the youngest popular yoga style at this moment, Aerial Yoga. If you like some air time and do it in a safe way, aerial yoga probably will be something for you!

Let’s have a look at some amazing yoga studios where you can practice this amazing style. This will be the European edition.

What is Aerial Yoga?

If you haven’t heard about Aerial Yoga just yet, it would be good to read this part first. It would be kind of weird to be joining your first class without having the knowledge of what it actually is.

If you are in for an adventure and you don’t want to know what it is all about, you can just scroll down to see if there is an Aerial Yoga studio near you ;).

If you decided to read the whole article, then let’s get on with it!

So, Aerial Yoga has gained a lot of popularity in the last decade, probably because even the most inflexible person can do this style of yoga and look amazing doing so!

Of course, we all know that yoga is not about looking cool or amazing, but with Aerial yoga we can even achieve some inversions we could never do before.

And this all with the use of just a kind of hammock.

Benefits of Aerial Yoga

#1 Better for the spine

Yoga, in general, is quite good for the spine if you do it correctly. However, if you already have an existing condition, it might not always suitable for you to do it.

With Aerial yoga you’ll be getting less compression on your spine, relieve your vertebrae. So, less pressure, more gain!

It’s not just great for the spine, but also for all the muscles and joints that are attached to your spine as well.

#2 Beginner friendly

This comes with a bit of a manual. Yes it is really user friendly, but it’s always best to book a first-timers class.

Not because you won’t be able to do all the asanas, but to make sure you know how to handle your hammock. These classes are to make sure that you’ll be getting the time and on you need for your first class of Aerial Yoga.

That said, the moment you pass this class you can go ahead and practice with the pros!

As the asanas are supported by the hammocks, you won’t have to be worried that you won’t be able to do them. Lucky us!

#3 Increases flexibility

If you aren’t that flexible and you’d like to gain some, then this style might be something for you as well.

Because you are hanging in their, your whole body gets a stretch, this because of the wonderful phenomenon we call gravity.

It’s not just gravity that helps, but the hammock itself as well gives you that little push into the asanas. You’ll be able to go deeper without forcing yourself to do anything.

Just watch out that you don’t overstretch of course.

Taking Precaution When Doing Aerial Yoga

Those were a couple of the benefits, but they are not limited to the ones I’ve mentioned here above.

It’s just time now to move on a little as you are probably dying to know where you can practice this style of yoga.

But before we are getting into that, I’ll keep you hanging for just a couple more minutes.

I want to mention a couple of precautions as well, before you start this type of yoga.

#1 Not suitable for everyone

Even though Aerial yoga is very suitable for beginners, this doesn’t mean that just everyone can do it.

If you have certain body conditions going on, it’s better to avoid this style.

Blood Pressure not good for aerial yoga

One of these conditions is heart and blood pressure problems. When you are hanging in these hammocks, your BP might drop as you’ll be doing more inversions than other styles.

Also if you have any muscle or bone issues, this might not be so suitable for you. This because you’ll be putting more stress on them.

It’s always best to ask clearance from your physician to see if you are able to practice this form of yoga. Just to make sure you won’t end up hurting yourself.

#2 Can Induce Anxiety

We all have our reasons to do yoga, and some of you might decide that it’s time to get rid of your anxiety. Well, that won’t probably happen with Aerial Yoga very quickly.

Your body will go into positions that it naturally won’t go in. Meaning that your flight or fight reaction might be triggered while doing this type of yoga.

That said, if you are in control of this reaction, go for it. It might be a good way to see how you handle the flight or fight reaction your body naturally has.
